Three Feet From God Spreads

Being presented with an article about Nirvana, I was tasked to create spreads for a magazine. I was limited to five spreads, one for the cover and the rest for the body. I was given a specific article and very little information to see what inspiration would strike. If you want to see the spreads themselves, feel free to download the PDF to take a closer look.

Process

I first read the article a few times in addition to researching more about Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. I took all of the text and color coated each section based on if it was a title, chapter title, body, etc to help organize the information. I also highlighted a few quotes that stuck out to me so I create a few pull quotes to add another layer of depth to the article. While reading the article, I felt like I was a part of a conversation with people looking through an old photo album, reminiscing about memories and the good old days. That is why the article is void of color, to try to capture that feeling of nostalgia.

Reflection

With given minimal instruction and being allowed to have control over the design, I am pleased with how this came out. The concept is strong and reads while flipping through the spreads. I enjoy how one spread flows to the next with the use of cropped imagery
