Philip Glass Music Poster

Process

This is a poster based on the music and scores by Philip Glass; I wanted to capture is flowing and repetitive melodies within a poster. I wanted the imagery bold, but still reflect his music and his namesake. Feel free to download the PDF of the work to view the typography and information up close.

I first listened to his music I noticed how flowing and melodic each note seemed to be. Wanting to play with a tabletop scanner, I created the image on the right by printing out his name. While the scanner was working, I moved the text to create the image. I originally wanted to keep the image as a whole, but quickly realized it was overpowering the information. I cropped the image, which allowed the name to be bold and be more simplistic.

Reflection

I like how I stepped out of the box to create a piece that is unique and it is more than welcome to use unconventional methods to solve a problem. This is especially relevant in design, so I am happy with the piece. I may revisit is at some point to see how I can push the grid a bit more.
