Nils Frahm Album Art
One Design challenge that was presented to me was to create a Record cover, back, and stickers on each side of the record. I was informed of the name of the record, artist, and then listened to the album itself. I then created a series of collages reflecting various parts of the album. I then had to take one of those collages and create the full album art Using the idea of the narrative and the work created, I was able to create a complete record cover.
Process
While listening to the album, I created a few different collages reflecting the album as a story. I then had to select one part of the story and focus on that specific element or emotion. I decided to use one thematic color and one pattern that I felt related to the music. I then took the collage I chose and edited it in Adobe Illustrator to add text. After I completed the cover, I then created the back; my idea for the back was a zoomed out version of the front with the song titles running around the edge of the image. The labels were made last and were influenced by the front and back.
Reflection
As a designer, it is easy to get lost in only using digital platforms to create various works. It was a great experience to start somewhere physical, and then move into a digital format; I believe that is one of the main reasons that this piece turned out the way it did.
