Thelma & Louise Poster

Process

One of my all time favorite movies is the classic Thelma & Louise. As an avid fan, I wanted to redesign what would be the cover of the DVD case. After completing the piece, I thought it worked better as a standalone poster instead as a cover.

My first step was coming up with a concept; I wanted to make the poster feel like the characters did in the movie: free. I also wanted to highlight the most important scene of the movie without giving too much away. I then printed out and sketched the car so I could simplify and stylize it. I did the same for the mountains and rock formations on the bottom. The piece needed another layer, so instead of illustrating the background, I used an image for contrast. The rock formations at the bottom have another color layer behind them to add depth and as a paper texture to make it look more like stone.

Reflection

If I would go back and work on this piece, there are a few things I would tweak. I would try to find a way to make the bottom section feel more like rocks. The other would be to work on the text of the actors a bit to make it feel more apart of the piece. I would like to revisit the idea of it being a DVD.
